WICKLOW GAOL & AVOCA MILLS

Friday the 24th after leaving school we took the bus to Wicklow Gaol

We arrived at the gaol at 14:20, the bus dropped us in front of the gaol.

The gaol was very big and impressive.

It was built of stone and has 7 windows on the main facade and one very big door.

At the entrance there was a very serious prison guard.

The guard had a hat, bracelets and one   candle lantern and his clothes was dark.

After that we descended the stairs and arrived at the school of the gaol there was one teacher with some children and one blackboard in front of them.

And then we walked to the cells, the cells were located on three floors,

The place was very dark and sinister and also had spiral ladder.

Anecdotally some colleagues were startled to see the place.

On the first floor it had quite similar cells to this

On the second floor there was a jailer giving water to prisoners and more cells.

At the end of the second floor there was a spiral staircase that took us to the top attic.

After that we went down the stairs and got to the third floor of the gaol.

On the third floor in one of the cells a thing caught our attention this:

On the right there was the food for a person a day and on the left there was a box which had food for a prisoner a week.

After that we visited the store and took some coffee or coke …..

Finally we got on the bus and went to Avoca Mill (the factory of weavers)

When we arrived we entered the factory and one woman showed us some clothes made in Avoca.

We saw some weavers working

       

Wool is obtained from sheep, they clean it and finally it can be used for weaving.    

We went out of the factory and went to Mill shop.

The Mill shop was great and wonderful but was very expensive.

And finally we took the bus towards Bray.
